Kelly Osbourne Discusses Grief-Related Relapse on Podcast

Kelly Osbourne has revealed that she relapsed into drinking following the death of her father, Ozzy Osbourne, stating that her grief sent her spiraling back into addiction. The television personality shared these details during an interview on Paul Brunson's podcast, "We Need To Talk."

Osbourne had been sober for over four years when she reached what she described as "ground zero" in the months after losing the Black Sabbath frontman, who died at the age of 76. Osbourne stated that his death triggered a period where she was unable to care for herself, feeling like "a shell" of her former self.

"I couldn't speak. I couldn't eat. I couldn't do anything. I was just empty," Osbourne said. "Broken in every way a human being could possibly be broken and completely unable to even take care of myself. I was at ground zero. I started drinking again. I lost my mind. I couldn't handle it."

Osbourne, who has battled drug and alcohol addiction since her teenage years, confirmed that she has since regained her sobriety, stating, "I can honestly say today I'm eight months sober." She attributed her recovery to the "incredible people" around her and the decision to "close my circle" due to friends who "don't like sadness and they expected me to be over it."

She emphasized, "I will never be over it. I will never ever be over it."

Kelly Osbourne, who has a three-year-old son, Sidney, with musician Sid Wilson, has been open about previous periods of addiction and recovery. In 2021, she disclosed a relapse after nearly four years of sobriety, explaining how a single glass of champagne had escalated into heavier drinking before she re-entered recovery.

Osbourne also reflected on the underlying reasons for her past substance use, noting that drinking and drugs were never about partying but rather an attempt to escape difficult emotions. "I never did drugs because I wanted a party. I never drank because I wanted a party. I just didn't want to feel the pain," she stated.

She linked this pain to her experiences of insecurity and self-doubt that arose from her teenage fame on the MTV reality show "The Osbournes." Osbourne is now focused on carving out a different life for herself, having returned to the UK, where she spent her childhood before moving to Los Angeles with her family at age 13.

In addition to her personal revelations, Osbourne also made a notable appearance at London Fashion Week, attending the John Richmond show on Saturday. She garnered attention in a gold hooded jumpsuit from the designer. This appearance followed her participation in Natasha Zinko's show the previous night, where she walked the catwalk alongside Katie Price.
