Kelly Clarkson Recounts Alleged 'Pretty Woman' Moment at Brooklyn Store

Singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson recently voiced her displeasure with a Brooklyn store, alleging that an employee exhibited discriminatory behavior. Clarkson took to the social media platform X to describe her experience at Art of Play, a store known for its curated collection of toys, games, and unique items.

Clarkson stated that upon entering the store with the intention to make purchases, she was met with an attitude that suggested she could not afford the merchandise. "Literally was looked at as if I couldn’t afford it and was told he could find something comparable for me," Clarkson wrote on X.

She compared the alleged encounter to a pivotal scene in the 1990 film "Pretty Woman," where the main character, Vivian Ward, played by Julia Roberts, is treated dismissively by a boutique saleswoman who assumes she cannot afford the high-end clothing. Clarkson sarcastically recommended Art of Play to those who "enjoy being treated like Julia Roberts’ character in ‘Pretty Woman.’"

The singer's public statement prompted a reaction from some of her followers, with several criticizing the store online. Reports indicate that some users left negative reviews on the store's Google listing.

Art of Play has not issued a formal statement addressing Clarkson's claims. However, the store reportedly shared an Instagram Story featuring a customer review that praised the staff for their "genuine kindness," according to Us Weekly. This customer review stated, "From the very first time I walked into @artofplay, I felt welcomed and treated with such genuine kindness."

The Instagram Story was reportedly later deleted. A representative for Art of Play did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.

Art of Play's website describes itself as offering "a unique collection of magical home goods, puzzles, games, toys and books." The store also features a 26-seat theater that hosts close-up magic performances.
