Kelly Clarkson addressed her single status during a recent performance in Las Vegas, humorously defending her choice to be unattached. During her "Studio Sessions" show at Caesars Palace on Friday, Clarkson told the audience that being single can be a positive choice. "People are like, ‘Oh, why are you single?’ And I’m like, ‘First of all, there are a lot of people out here making single look real good,’" she said, according to social media footage.
Clarkson, 44, also remarked on the challenges of maintaining a romantic connection, noting, "If you are in a relationship, the hardest part I feel like is just keeping that fire alive and still dating. And, like, still making it feel magical and not monotonous." She added with a laugh, "You see relationships and you’re like, ‘I am so glad I’m going home alone.’ You know what’s not happening in my house? That s–t."
The "Miss Independent" singer has largely kept her dating life private since finalizing her divorce from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock in 2022. Blackstock, with whom Clarkson shared daughter River Rose, 12, and son Remy, 10, died in August 2025 at age 48 following a battle with melanoma.
Clarkson's talk show, "The Kelly Clarkson Show," is set to conclude its seven-season run this fall. She confirmed the show's end in February, stating that stepping away was a difficult but necessary decision to prioritize her children for the next chapter of her life. Her Las Vegas residency is scheduled to run through August 15, and she released her new single, "I’d Be Lyin’," on July 17.
Previously, Clarkson had spoken about the difficulties of dating, especially under public scrutiny. In July 2025, she told her Las Vegas audience that dating is "hard anyway," and can become a "dumpster fire" when "the spotlight" is added.
