Kelly Clarkson Claims Rude Store Encounter, Retailer Shares Positive Review
The singer alleged unfair treatment at a Brooklyn shop, which later posted a glowing customer testimonial.
Singer Kelly Clarkson has accused a New York-based design shop, Art of Play, of treating her as if she could not afford their products. Clarkson, 44, shared her experience on the social media platform X, stating she drove to the Brooklyn store with the intention of making purchases but felt judged by a salesperson.
"Looked at as if I couldn't afford it," Clarkson wrote, adding that the employee was "a huge idiot" and that the store "just lost a huge sale." She compared the situation to a scene from the 1990 film Pretty Woman, where Julia Roberts' character is depicted as being unwelcome in a high-end boutique.
In response to Clarkson's claims, Art of Play reportedly shared a positive customer review on their Instagram Stories. The review praised the shop for making patrons feel "welcomed and treated with such genuine kindness" and described it as "a place that leaves you smiling and wanting to come back." The customer also mentioned plans to return within two weeks. This post has since been deleted, according to reports.
Clarkson's talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, is set to conclude this fall after seven seasons. The singer announced earlier this year that she would be stepping away from the daytime series to spend more time with her children, River, 12, and Remy, 10. She noted that the decision was difficult, particularly due to the impact on her staff, whom she considers family.
Clarkson's ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, died from melanoma in August 2025. A source previously told Page Six that Clarkson's priority has been supporting her children through their grief.
The singer's talk show premiered in September 2019 and has received 11 Daytime Emmy nominations. Clarkson expressed gratitude for the team and the show's success.
