Kelly Clarkson Accuses Brooklyn Shop of 'Pretty Woman' Treatment
The singer took to social media to express her frustration after alleging she was judged by a store employee.
Singer Kelly Clarkson publicly criticized a Brooklyn home goods store on Saturday, alleging that she was treated dismissively by an employee, comparing the experience to the film "Pretty Woman." Clarkson detailed her encounter on X, formerly Twitter, after visiting the shop Art of Play.
Clarkson stated that she was drawn to the store due to its appearance and her intent to make purchases. However, upon entering, she claims she was met with a perception that she could not afford the items. According to her post, an employee suggested he could find something "comparable" for her, which Clarkson interpreted as judgmental.
"Wow, dude. You're an idiot and just lost a huge sale," Clarkson wrote in her post. She further elaborated that she felt treated like Julia Roberts' character in the 1990 film "Pretty Woman." In the movie, Roberts' character, Vivian Ward, experiences a similar situation where she is judged by retail staff based on her appearance, only to later return and make significant purchases.
Clarkson concluded her X post with a sarcastic recommendation: "But y'all should go check out Art of Play in Brooklyn if you enjoy being treated like Julia Roberts character in Pretty Woman. For sure, check it out."
Daily Mail has reached out to Art of Play and a representative for Clarkson for comment, but has not yet received a response.
This incident follows recent public appearances by Clarkson, including a new hairstyle reveal and her decision to step away from her self-titled talk show after seven seasons. Clarkson announced in February that she was leaving the show to prioritize her children, citing family life changes and a need to balance her workload. The final episode of "The Kelly Clarkson Show" aired on August 31. She has also recently shared that she is focusing on her children and not prioritizing dating, expressing contentment with her current life balance.
