Kelly Brook has described her former fiancé Jason Statham as a "cliché," asserting that he transformed into a "macho, alpha" persona as his tough-guy Hollywood career gained momentum.
Brook, 46, made the comments on a recent episode of "Loose Women," reflecting on her seven-year relationship with the "Fast & Furious" star, which ended in 2004.
"I do remember, 'cause when I met him he had just started acting, so I remember feeling that he was a very sporty guy but there was this softer side," Brook recalled. "But then as the success started coming in, it definitely – it was more macho, alpha, you know, wanting the posh house and the car and the supermodel girlfriend. It all became a bit cliché for me."
She suggested that Statham may have "became his character," contributing to the relationship's demise.
Brook also discussed a past love triangle involving Statham and actor Billy Zane. She explained that while dating Statham, she met Zane and eventually pursued a relationship with him, describing the end of her engagement to Statham as "inevitable."
"When I met Cal from Titanic, I was with somebody else when we first met," Brook said, referring to Zane. "My first boyfriend, I'd been with him since I was 18 when I met him. When I met Billy Zane, I was 25. I was a young woman. My first boyfriend didn't really see me as a woman, he still saw me as a girl. I think someone coming along and seeing me for the woman that I had become rather than the girl I was made me step into that new person a lot more. It was inevitable."
She recounted that Statham's career took off while hers "floundered," and she felt "neglected" due to a lack of mutual support.
"His career just took off and it just became the most incredible thing because I did so much and didn't look after myself, I just felt so neglected in that dynamic and to the point where I actually fell out of love with him in the end because he hadn't showed up for me like I'd showed up for him, I didn't feel," Brook said on Elizabeth Day's "How To Fail" podcast.
Brook initiated the breakup with Statham, stating, "I felt Jason 'didn't know who I was anymore,' and while it was difficult it was 'the best decision.'"
She also revealed that Statham's reluctance to commit to marriage or children was a factor in her brief engagement to Billy Zane. They met on the set of "Survival Island" in 2004, became engaged, and lived together before splitting in 2008. Brook ultimately decided Zane was not the man she wanted to marry.
Brook is now married to model Jeremy Parisi.
