Country music star Keith Urban became visibly emotional during a concert in Atlantic City on Friday, performing a song about a past love who has moved on.
Performance and Song Choice
Urban, 58, performed the ballad "We Go Back" at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The song, featured on his latest album "Flow State," released five months after his divorce from Nicole Kidman was finalized, tells the story of a man who regrets letting a past love go when she has since found someone new. "This song is about a guy and a girl growing up in a small town," Urban explained to the audience. "They were the first of their friends to fall in love. They had a good thing going, until the guy screwed it up."
He continued, describing the song's narrative: "years and years go by" until the man sees the woman again. "She tells him she's got somebody else." The chorus laments, "I know I never should have let you go. I was young and dumb, and I messed it all up bad. You tell me that it's too late now, 'cause there's somebody new around. But what we've got is the one thing you'll never have. We go back."
Following the performance of "We Go Back," Urban appeared to wipe away a tear as he looked out at the sold-out crowd, crouching on stage at one point. He later addressed the moment, saying, "This is why we keep coming back to Atlantic City."
Kidman's Reported New Relationship
Urban's performance comes after reports surfaced last month linking his ex-wife, actress Nicole Kidman, to private equity businessman Michael Reinstein. The two were reportedly seen together during an Italian getaway, with photographs obtained by the Daily Mail showing them poolside. A source close to Kidman told the Daily Mail that she "deserves to find happiness" after her previous marriage, adding that she had tried to keep her family intact and seemed content.
Kidman and Urban finalized their divorce in January after 19 years of marriage. Reports of their separation first emerged in September of the previous year, following a reportedly rocky period in the summer of 2025. The former couple reached a settlement agreement shortly after the new year.
Kidman has spoken about navigating her personal life post-divorce, telling British Vogue that she has learned to "adjust" when life doesn't turn out as planned. She described a period of feeling "very fearful and deeply vulnerable" but chose to move forward with "an enormous amount of hope." In March, she told Variety that her focus was on "moving forward" and maintaining her family unit, stating, "I'm staying in a place of, 'We are a family,' and that's what we'll continue to be."
