Sir Keir Starmer's childhood home, a three-bedroom semi-detached house in Oxted, Surrey, has been sold for £650,000. The property, which Starmer has described as his 'pebble-dash semi' and 'everything to my family,' went on the market last month and sold within weeks.

The sale occurred despite a stagnating property market, with the asking price being two and a half times the national average. The home was listed by local agent Robert Leech, who noted it had been "extensively modernized to a high standard."

Starmer, who stepped down as Prime Minister this month and was succeeded by Andy Burnham, often spoke of his working-class background. However, Oxted has been identified as one of the UK's most desirable towns, with average salaries and house prices significantly above the national median. The town offers a 39-minute train commute to London Bridge, attracting city commuters.

The 1920s property, measuring 1,172 square feet, has undergone significant renovation. While retaining its pebble-dash exterior, the interior now features an open-plan kitchen and living room with floor-to-ceiling windows leading to a garden terrace. The house includes three bedrooms and a modernized bathroom. The property also has space for two to three cars at the front.

The home was previously sold in October 2020 for £455,000. Starmer's parents, Josephine and Rodney, passed away in 2015 and 2018, respectively. The recent sale represents a profit of £195,000 for the owners if the asking price was met.

Oxted's amenities include a Waitrose supermarket, a cinema, a theatre, and independent boutiques. The town was recognized in a 2024 survey by Savills as one of the top 50 best places to live in the UK.

Starmer, who led Labour to a general election victory in July 2024, announced his resignation as Prime Minister earlier this month, citing local poll losses and criticism from within his party. Andy Burnham was elected unopposed as his successor.
