Keenum's Joyful Return: Bears QB Delights Family in First Start Since 2023
Veteran quarterback Case Keenum led the Bears to a decisive victory in his first start in three years, marking the occasion with a rushing touchdown and a heartwarming family presence.
Case Keenum delivered a memorable performance in his first start in three years, guiding the Bears to a 27-7 win over the Eagles. The 38-year-old quarterback not only threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns but also scored his first rushing touchdown since 2019.
In the fourth quarter, Keenum called his own number on third-and-goal and dove into the end zone for a score, adding to his already impressive stat line. This victory marked the Bears' second win of the season. The game was also significant as it was the first time Keenum played in front of his two young children.
"Hopefully they stayed up. Hopefully they didn’t fall asleep over there. We kept it exciting for them," Keenum said after the game, referencing his children. "I’m going to have fun watching the game with them tomorrow on the couch, or probably just Bluey. They probably won’t want to watch it again. They’ll be like, ‘We saw it one time already, dad.’"
He added, "It’s so special. I love my family, my wife Kimberly. She’s been here the whole ride. I wouldn’t be here without her either."
Keenum's start had been his first since playing for the Texans on Christmas Eve 2023, a span of 1,009 days. He returned to the starting role following an injury to Caleb Williams, who sustained a hamstring injury in the second quarter of the Bears' Week 2 loss to the Vikings.
"It was so much fun," Keenum stated on ESPN’s postgame show. "I’m going to remember this night forever. This is incredible."
