Keenan Allen Showed Multiple Signs of Intoxication During DUI Arrest, Filing States
Court documents detail slurred speech, watery eyes, and a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit for the Colts wide receiver.
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen exhibited numerous signs of intoxication during his drunk driving arrest on August 30, according to a court filing. Police officers encountered Allen at approximately 1 a.m. after observing his vehicle stopped in a no-parking zone.
During the stop, officers noted Allen had "extremely slurred speech and glossy eyes." Upon exiting his vehicle, a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" was detected on his breath. The court document further states that Allen "also appeared to have a dry mouth with spit at the corners of his mouth and consistently licked his lips, which is consistent with the ingestion of alcohol."
Allen's blood alcohol content was measured at .224 on a portable breath test, which is nearly three times the legal limit of .08. He subsequently performed poorly on multiple field sobriety tests.
Allen was arrested and formally charged with two misdemeanor counts: operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
Allen, who joined the Colts on August 18 after spending most of his NFL career with the Chargers, caught six passes for 32 yards in the team's season-opening loss to the Ravens. Messages seeking comment from Allen's attorneys were not returned.
