Keenan Allen Faces Potential NFL Suspension After DUI Arrest

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen is facing a potential suspension from the NFL following his arrest on charges of drunk driving. Allen was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (OVWI) and OVWI endangering a person, both misdemeanors in Indiana.

According to reports, Allen’s blood alcohol level was .224 at the time of his arrest, significantly exceeding Indiana's legal limit of .08. The higher blood alcohol content elevates the charge to a Class A misdemeanor.

Allen's arrest is a violation of the NFL’s substance-abuse policy. The league’s Collective Bargaining Agreement mandates a minimum three-game suspension for such violations, with the possibility of a longer suspension depending on the severity of intoxication.

The NFL has reportedly been awaiting the outcome of Allen’s legal proceedings before issuing a suspension. With an attorney conference scheduled for October 26, a mid-season suspension for the Colts receiver is possible.

Despite the ongoing legal situation, Allen was available for the Colts' Week 2 "Sunday Night Football" matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. He played in the team's Week 1 game against the Baltimore Ravens, recording six receptions for 32 yards.

Allen, 34, is in his first season with the Indianapolis Colts after signing a one-year deal in the offseason. He spent the previous 12 seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers. Last season with the Chargers, Allen made 81 receptions for 77 yards and four touchdowns. He played for the Chicago Bears during the 2024 season.
