Katy Perry has spoken about her difficult split from Orlando Bloom, which was confirmed in July 2025, and how it ultimately led her to what she describes as an "epic, legendary love" with Justin Trudeau.

Perry, 41, shared in an interview with People that the period following her separation from Bloom, 49, was "probably the hardest time" as she was on the Australian leg of her Lifetimes Tour. "My friends were all hanging out back home. I was crying and just feeling far away," she recalled. "But then my angels went to work. They really showed up."

Despite the personal challenges, Perry stated she learned to "step back into my purpose" and found a significant connection during the tour. "I got the greatest gift from this tour: I got to meet the love of my life," she said, referring to Trudeau.

Perry met the former Canadian Prime Minister, 54, on July 28 during her tour stop in Montreal, just weeks after her split from Bloom was publicly announced on July 4. "I got to meet Justin on tour, and then things shifted," she added.

Reflecting on her nearly decade-long relationship with Bloom, which began in 2016 with a brief separation in 2017, followed by an engagement and the birth of their daughter Daisy Dove, Perry noted the lessons learned. "Each relationship is a teacher, right? I had to let it go so I could move forward," she said. "I always wanted this epic legendary love, and I was talking to my therapist about it: Everything in my life is epic, but this is kind of the missing puzzle piece — then it showed up."

Perry described her current relationship with Trudeau as "true love," referencing a note that simply read "True Love" as item No. 10 on a piece of paper she shared. She also praised Trudeau's support, telling Entertainment Tonight that he is "just there to support" in a way that is "definitely a different level."

A particularly meaningful moment for Perry occurred when she sang her 2010 song "Not Like the Movies" during a show in Montreal with Trudeau in the audience. She realized the song, which is about waiting for a relationship that matches one's energy, felt like it was written about them. "I sang Not Like the Movies when he was at the show and it is his favorite song and I was like, I can’t believe I’m singing this and I wrote this so long ago, and I think I wrote this about us," she explained. "And this is such a weird full circle mystical, magical moment."

Perry admitted that performing that show in Montreal with Trudeau present made her nervous. "I don't typically get nervous," she stated, but acknowledged the unique energy of that performance. "I was like, 'I can’t look at him'. A lot of energy."

Perry was previously married to Russell Brand from 2010 to 2012, and dated John Mayer on and off between 2012 and 2015. Bloom is reportedly dating Swiss model Luisa Laemmel. Trudeau was previously married to Sophie Gregoire, with whom he has three children.
