Katie Price has described herself as a "survivor" as she prepares to release a new documentary detailing her past suicide attempts and struggles with substance abuse. The film, "Katie Price: Nothing To Hide," is set to debut on Wednesday and revisits what she calls "horrible moments" from her life.
"It's like I'm meant to be here," Price stated in a recent interview, reflecting on her ability to overcome severe personal crises. "I survived. I mean, who f**king survives that? Me. I'm glad I did because now I'm back again."
Price has been open about her mental health challenges throughout her three decades in the public eye. In 2022, she disclosed that she had attempted to take her own life prior to a stay at The Priory, a mental health treatment facility. "I tried to kill myself before I ended up in the Priory," she said. "The only reason I didn't was because of my children. So, if my kids weren't here, I wouldn't be here today."
She is a mother to Princess and Junior, from her marriage to Peter Andre; Jett and Bunny, from her marriage to Kieran Hayler; and Harvey, whose father is Dwight Yorke.
Personal Turmoil and Public Scrutiny
Price's past struggles have included the fallout from her ex-husband Kieran Hayler's affair with her former friend Jane Pountney, which she discovered in 2016. At the time, she was pregnant with their second child. "I just wanted to end it all. I wanted to commit suicide. I was consumed by those dark thoughts, all of the time..." she recalled. "I felt so alone. Kieran hadn't bothered to come and find me... I felt desperate. I didn't know what to do."
Another incident that significantly impacted her was a drink-driving arrest in September 2021, when she overturned her BMW. This led to her being banned from driving for two years and receiving a suspended sentence. Reflecting on this event, Price told The Sun, "I could have killed myself. I could have killed someone else. I deserved to be punished, enough was enough. Getting in the car was a terrible mistake I'm so sorry for. That was a prime example of me having been triggered and not knowing how to handle it, an example of me spiralling out of control because I needed help."
The documentary aims to provide a candid look at these difficult periods in her life. "There were horrible moments I had to relive," she stated, emphasizing her survival. "I try and hang myself, pass out and I am OK. I am making light of it now, but it wasn't funny at the time. And I've had these car crashes that should have killed me."
