Griffin mentioned in the caption that she stayed at the Four Seasons Oahu at Ko Olina and praised the property and her room, stating, "OMG you guys, I love all Four Seasons, but this property was incredible, and my room was to die for." Griffin later addressed the backlash, explaining that the younger man was a member of her security team during a trip to New York City, not a romantic partner. She described her initial post as a "sociological experiment" to observe reactions on social media platforms.
She noted a perceived difference in public commentary between her situation and that of older male celebrities who date younger women, citing examples such as Luke Wilson, Michael Douglas, Harrison Ford, and Jay-Z. Griffin concluded by stating that her post was intended as "harmless fun."
