Kathleen Turner Dismisses Michael Douglas's Affair Revelation as a "Fuss"
The actress responded to her "Romancing the Stone" co-star's memoir confession with a nonchalant quip.
Kathleen Turner has reacted to Michael Douglas's recent revelation that they had a secret affair decades ago, calling the ensuing attention a "fuss."
Douglas, 82, admitted to the decades-long romance in his upcoming memoir, "One Helluva Ride," ending a period of denial about their relationship.
Turner, 72, addressed the news in a statement to People, stating, "Good heavens, what a fuss about something [that happened] 40 years ago! I love Michael, and I look forward to enjoying the book."
Douglas writes in his memoir that he and Turner were "immediately attracted to each other" during the filming of "Romancing the Stone." He described their relationship as more than a "fly-by-night affair," detailing how he would sneak into her hotel room after everyone else had gone to sleep.
He also noted that he was separated from his then-wife, Diandra Luker, with whom he has a son, Cameron, at the time of the affair, and that both were involved in "extramarital affairs." Douglas had a fling with screenwriter Diane Thomas before beginning his relationship with Turner.
The affair reportedly ended when Luker visited Douglas on set and confronted Turner, making it clear that she and Douglas were still married. Turner "didn't want to interfere," leading to the end of their relationship. Douglas writes that he reconciled with Luker for their son, but their relationship was "never the same."
Douglas and Luker divorced in 1995. He later married Catherine Zeta-Jones, with whom he has two children. Turner was married to Jay Weiss from 1984 to 2007, and they have a daughter, Rachel, born in 1987.
While Turner had offered hints about their connection over the years, including telling the Los Angeles Times in 2021 that she had "certainly had a crush" on Douglas and describing their "wonderful sexual tension," she had largely denied an affair until now.
