Kathleen Folbigg married her childhood friend Bob Muir on Saturday at the historic Fort Scratchley Function Centre in Newcastle. The ceremony marks a new chapter for Folbigg, who was released from prison in June 2023 after her convictions for the deaths of her four children were overturned due to new scientific evidence raising reasonable doubt.
Folbigg, who spent 20 years incarcerated, wore a strapless, beaded gown with a long skirt and sweetheart neckline. Her bridal party, including her solicitor Rhanee Rego who represented her during the legal efforts, wore navy blue dresses. Muir donned a black suit with an iris on the lapel.
Ms. Folbigg had previously changed her name to Cathy Lisa Brandon. Following her release, she was awarded a $2 million compensation payment from the NSW government, which she described as a disappointment. She has spoken about the challenges of adjusting to life outside of prison, including difficulties finding housing and employment.
In letters written while in prison, Folbigg had expressed a desire to find love and companionship. She noted her criteria for a partner were high and that she anticipated being shy. Muir stated in a pre-wedding interview that he and Folbigg "just gel with" each other, sharing many similarities and a comfortable connection. He also noted that she deserved happiness after facing negative press and that friends had turned against her.
