Katherine Ryan Appears Publicly After Apologizing to Victoria Beckham

Katherine Ryan made her first public appearance on Sunday since apologizing to Victoria Beckham for a "stupid joke." The comedian attended the 20th anniversary of the West End show "Wicked" at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, smiling for cameras in a green dress.

This outing follows an apology Ryan issued to Beckham after the BBC upheld viewer complaints over a remark made on the satirical news quiz show "Have I Got News For You." The complaint centered on Ryan's use of an offensive term in relation to Beckham during a November 2025 episode.

The BBC's Executive Complaints Unit (ECU) found that while a co-panelist's use of the word was justified in referencing an alleged past usage by David Beckham, there was "no editorial justification" for Ryan's subsequent comment about Victoria Beckham. The ECU stated there was no justification for presenting Victoria Beckham as equivalent to the offensive word.

Ryan, who hosted the episode in question, addressed the incident on social media, attributing her remark partly to the stress of being a new mother with a ten-day-old baby. She explained that she had sent a message to Victoria Beckham immediately after the recording to clarify that it was a joke and she did not intend any harm. Ryan also noted that while she might use such language with friends, she sometimes forgets that celebrities are not necessarily her personal friends.
