Actress Katey Sagal marked a significant personal achievement this past Saturday, celebrating 40 years of continuous sobriety. Sagal, 72, shared her milestone on social media, expressing gratitude for the support of friends and family.

"It's a wonderful life," Sagal wrote in an Instagram post, which featured a slideshow of her celebration, including a decorated cake and floral arrangements. She was joined by her children: Sarah Grace White, Jackson, and Esme, as well as her husband, Kurt Sutter. Sagal referred to her children as the "three loves of my life" and praised Sutter for his support throughout their 21-year marriage.

Sagal has been open about her struggles with substance abuse, revealing that she began drinking and using drugs at age 15. In a past interview with the MeSsy podcast, she spoke about the challenges of living a sober life, stating, "The brave part of living a sober life is that life's f***ing terrifying. And you got to look at it." She emphasized the importance of community in recovery, adding, "What I have found around community, around all that, is I know lots of people that have walked through everything I've walked through."

Sagal's career spans decades, with notable roles in television shows such as "Married with Children," "Futurama," "Shameless," and "Sons of Anarchy." She also began her career as a backup singer for artists like Bob Dylan and Bette Midler. Her upcoming projects include the romantic drama "Carousel" and an untitled comedy series for Apple TV.

Numerous colleagues and friends congratulated Sagal on her achievement, including Audrina Patridge, Robert Patrick, Lisa Ling, Jaimie Alexander, Annabeth Gish, and her former "Married with Children" co-star David Faustino. Faustino commented, "Great times! And congrats again Katey."
