The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, may take on a new prominent role at the Royal Thames Yacht Club as Commodore once she has recovered from her cancer treatment. King Charles III has confirmed he will remain the club's Patron, a decision met with relief by its members. The Commodore position, previously held by King Charles for 12 years when he was Prince of Wales, has been left unfilled, fueling speculation about Middleton's potential appointment.

The Royal Thames Yacht Club, established in 1775, has a long-standing association with the Royal Family. Prince Andrew previously served as Commodore after his brother, but stepped down in 2021. Club members have expressed a desire for Catherine to fill the role, viewing her as a strong role model. She has previously demonstrated her sailing ability, participating in a race with Olympic gold medallist Sir Ben Ainslie in 2022.

A spokesperson for the Princess of Wales indicated that decisions regarding her patronages are on hold until she receives medical clearance to resume public engagements. The club officers were informed of the King's continued patronage and the decision to leave the Commodore role vacant.

This news comes as King Charles's first year as monarch has presented numerous unforeseen challenges. The review of over 1,000 royal patronages has been completed, with the Palace intending to share the conclusions with relevant organizations. The club, which is not a charity, expressed jubilation and relief at the King's continued support.
