Kate Gosselin Reportedly Anxious Over Estranged Son Collin's Upcoming Memoir

Kate Gosselin is reportedly feeling apprehensive about the upcoming release of her estranged son Collin Gosselin's memoir, titled "In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood." The book, slated for release on October 13, is expected to detail Collin's experiences growing up under the shadow of reality television.

A source close to the situation told Page Six that Gosselin is "nervous" about the book's publication, stating, "Kate doesn’t want anyone in the family to talk about their past. She considers any of the children who talk in the family as traitors."

Collin, who has been publicly estranged from his mother since 2016, has suggested that Kate may be the one with reason to be concerned. He previously told Page Six, "I'm not the one that should be nervous."

Collin's estrangement from his mother began when he was 11 years old and was sent to live in a behavioral health institution. At the time, Kate stated he exhibited violent and unpredictable behavior. However, Collin has since claimed that his mother institutionalized him because he did not wish to participate in their family's reality television programs.

He was reunited with his father, Jon Gosselin, three years later. Jon, who had lost custody of his eight children following his divorce from Kate in 2009, was granted legal and physical custody of Collin. Hannah Gosselin, one of Collin's sextuplet siblings, also left Kate's care to live with her father.

The remaining sextuplets—Joel, Alexis, Leah, and Aaden—continue to live with Kate, as do their older twin sisters, Mady and Cara, who remain estranged from their father.

Collin's memoir is expected to offer an in-depth look at his experiences and the "trauma" he endured, including aspects Kate allegedly wished to keep private. According to the source, Kate had previously instructed the children not to discuss her former bodyguard and boyfriend, Steve Neild, whom the family lived with after Jon's departure. The source suggested that Kate's concern over the book revealing details about her relationship with Neild may have prompted her to finally allow certain truths to surface, adding, "This book is going to reveal the truth and people will finally see the real Kate Gosselin, and it’s not pretty."

Collin, who has been vocal about his healing process through writing, stated, "Writing this was like therapy for me. It was insanely healing." He aims to share his story to resonate with other children who have experienced similar challenges within the entertainment industry.

Collin is also participating in the fifth season of Fox's reality competition series "Special Forces: World's Toughest Test," which is set to premiere on September 24. A representative for Kate Gosselin did not respond to requests for comment.
