Kate Gosselin has publicly responded to her estranged son Collin's request for her to take a lie detector test, stating that legal avenues are complicated for public figures. The response came via comments on her TikTok account on Monday, amidst increasing anticipation for Collin's upcoming memoir.
Collin Gosselin, 22, had previously made the plea in an interview with The US Sun in 2025, suggesting the test include questions about alleged abuse, specifically referencing being zip-tied and locked in a basement. He is set to release his tell-all book, "In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood," in October.
When a social media user suggested Gosselin sue Collin for defamation if she was certain his accusations were false, she replied that she could not because "rules are different unfortunately" for public figures. She elaborated in another comment, stating, "Malice is one of the hardest things to prove. I tried :(. The rules are different for ppl in the public eye."
Gosselin further explained that she had consulted a "high power LA attorney" years prior regarding similar issues, and was advised that courts often do not honor lie detector tests when the individuals involved are in the public eye. When another fan directly asked if she would take the test, Gosselin responded with a simple "Ha!"
Her public exchange occurred in the comments section of a video about her rescue dogs and did not directly mention her son. Collin has been open in recent years about allegations of abuse against his mother. He announced his memoir earlier this month, stating it would share "the story I’ve lived" and that "This isn’t the story people think they know." He also referred to his father Jon Gosselin's ex, Colleen Conrad, as his "real mom."
