Kate Gosselin: 'My Kids Know Who I Truly Am'
Former reality star addresses son Collin's abuse allegations in a social media post.
Kate Gosselin stated that her children are aware of her true identity amidst allegations of abuse made by her son, Collin Gosselin. The former star of "Jon & Kate Plus 8" shared her perspective on TikTok while celebrating her boyfriend Steve Neild's birthday.
In response to a supportive comment from a fan, Gosselin wrote, "I needed this encouragement and you are right. I know who I am and my kids know who I truly am and to me, that’s all that matters."
Collin Gosselin has publicly accused his mother of abuse, detailing incidents in his memoir "In the Shadow of Eight." He also alleged on "The View" that his sister Hannah felt pressured to distance herself from him as a form of "damage control" regarding an upcoming Netflix documentary and their father.
Hannah Gosselin released a statement asserting she maintains relationships with her mother and some siblings but has not lived with her father for over a year and has not spoken to Collin in nearly a year. She stated she would not be making further comments on Collin's childhood behavior or their experiences together.
Collin Gosselin claimed his sister Hannah is caught in the middle and that their mother may be using Hannah's relationship with her siblings as leverage. He expressed that his mother has placed guilt on Hannah, which he finds unfair.
In his memoir, Collin alleged that his mother restrained him with zip ties, hit him, and isolated him in the basement. He previously stated in a 2022 interview that his mother sent him to a psychiatric hospital when he was 12 without informing the family, attributing it to a behavior disorder she claimed she couldn't manage.
Collin left the facility and moved in with his father, Jon Gosselin, in December 2018, with his sister Hannah also residing with their father at the time. Jon Gosselin was granted custody.
Collin has publicly stated he desires an apology from his mother and for her to take accountability for her actions, particularly regarding efforts to protect her reputation at his expense.
Kate Gosselin has previously denied allegations of abuse made by Collin.
