Kate Gosselin appeared unfazed by the impending release of her son Collin's memoir, which details his childhood experiences. Gosselin posted a TikTok video on Sunday that focused on her rescue dog, Koda, and her other dog, Meika, while making no mention of her son's upcoming book, "In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood."
In the video, Gosselin provided an update on Koda, who was away undergoing training. "I have a really cute video of Koda and the trainer’s kids — very cute," she said, appearing to be in good spirits. She also commented on the weather, noting it was "very hot and humid." Gosselin concluded the video by expressing her anticipation for Koda's return, stating, "I think we’re under 10 days until we get Koda back. Can’t wait."
Collin Gosselin, 22, has been actively promoting his memoir, which publisher descriptions state will reveal his "never-before-told story of how [Collin] escaped and found his way back from the dark." The book is expected to recount Collin's experiences of "being held down, the basement cell where he was hidden for years and the cocktail of powerful antipsychotics forced on an 11-year-old boy."
Ahead of the memoir's release on October 13, Collin has also taken to social media to comment on his mother. On Sunday, he shared an old clip on his Instagram Stories of himself discussing Kate, writing, "This was a year ago and I’ve been stood up by my mom… again," accompanied by a crying laughing emoji. In the clip, he extends an invitation to his mother, saying, "This is my formal invitation to her, to the hospital. Like the day that she literally got me out of the house. She had her ambulance friends come pick me up." He added that he would elaborate on these details in his tell-all book and expressed a desire for his mother to take a lie-detector test to address what he described as a "facade to the media."
An insider told the Daily Mail that Kate Gosselin was unaware of the book's impending release and is reportedly "spiraling" in anticipation of its publication. The source indicated that Gosselin has not communicated with Collin since she institutionalized him as a child and did not expect these events to be disclosed.
Collin has previously accused his mother of child abuse and exploitation, allegations that Kate Gosselin has denied. Her lawyer stated in September 2024 that Gosselin did not intentionally harm Collin and acted to protect herself and her family from his "troubled behavior."
Collin currently resides with his father, Jon Gosselin. Kate and Jon Gosselin, who divorced in 2009, are also parents to sextuplets Aaden, Joel, Alexis, Hannah, and Leah, as well as 25-year-old twins Cara and Madelyn. The family gained public attention through the TLC series "Jon & Kate Plus 8," which aired from 2007 to 2017. Jon Gosselin was granted sole custody of Collin in 2018.
