Kate Ferdinand Reflects on Body Image Struggles and Summer Indulgences

Kate Ferdinand has shared her feelings of being unable to fully enjoy herself due to a constant pressure to maintain a "perfect" physical appearance. The 35-year-old former The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE) star spoke on her Blended podcast, admitting that an "indulgent" summer has left her feeling she has "stopped enjoying things" because she isn't adhering to a strict, 24/7 ideal of being skinny or in perfect shape.

Ferdinand, who is married to former footballer Rio Ferdinand, explained that the societal expectation to always look a certain way impacts her ability to be present and enjoy moments with her family and friends. "The world we're living in makes us think that you have to be skinny or in perfect shape 24/7," she said. "Like and you're going out with your friends. You're having fun. I'm with my family. I'm having a lovely summer. By the way, I'm indulging. I'm eating. I'm still working out. I'm still mindful of what I eat but not 24/7."

She continued, "And then I am worrying about what I look like. Why am I not enjoying the moment?" Ferdinand elaborated on this internal conflict, stating, "I think it's like this thing of not being fully content if you're not looking 100 per cent perfect. And I do have that like battle between the two of those in my head because at the end of the day, I've got a lovely life and I'm really happy."

During the podcast, Ferdinand, who co-hosts with Cilla Kessie and Nathalie Holmes-Lewis, mentioned that she "wasn't skinny at the moment." This personal reflection comes after a summer that included a trip to Ibiza with her husband and friends, where she posted images of herself in a Burberry bikini.

Ferdinand also addressed past public perceptions of her marriage to Rio Ferdinand, who has an estimated net worth of £57 million. She stated that some people believe she is a "gold digger" and that she is "basically his nanny that he doesn't pay." However, she expressed confidence in her marriage, asserting that if financial gain were her sole motivation, she could have chosen an easier path without the complexities of a blended family. Kate and Rio married in 2019 and are parents to two young children, Shae and Cree, in addition to Rio's three older children from a previous marriage: Lorenz, Tate, and Tia.
