Kate Ferdinand has revealed that her step-children once threatened to place her younger children into a cupboard, offering a candid look at the early dynamics of her blended family with husband Rio Ferdinand.

During an episode of her podcast, "Blended," Ferdinand, 35, discussed sibling rivalry and shared an anecdote from co-host Nathalie Holmes-Lewis. Holmes-Lewis recalled that when Ferdinand and Rio Ferdinand first got together, his elder children, Lorenz, 19, and Tate, 18, expressed concerns about future family plans. "Oh, if they have a baby, we're going to put it in the cupboard," the boys reportedly said. Ferdinand confirmed the sentiment, clarifying that no children were actually put in a cupboard but acknowledged that the boys were initially unsupportive of the idea of another baby.

Ferdinand, who also shares two younger children, Shae, 2, and Cree, 5, with Rio, has been open about the difficulties of navigating relationships within a blended family, particularly after the death of Rio Ferdinand's first wife, Rebecca, from breast cancer in 2015. She noted that setting rules as a stepparent can be particularly challenging, as negative reactions can feel more personal from stepchildren.

Navigating Teenage Years

More recently, Ferdinand has experienced clashes with her teenage step-daughter, Tia, 15, over timekeeping, which she described as causing “chaos within the house.” Ferdinand admitted to feeling drained by recurring conversations about the issue, even telling Tia that she might have to adopt a sterner approach if gentle methods did not yield results. She recounted how such reactions from her can lead to others questioning her demeanor, with some labeling her as “a psycho” or “mental.”

Ferdinand also touched upon a past nickname her step-children used for her, laughing as she recalled being called “Aggie Maggie.” She indicated, however, that she is now in a calmer phase.

Despite the admitted challenges, Ferdinand expressed pride in her role in raising her stepchildren and in fostering an environment of open communication. She highlighted Tate's willingness to speak openly on the podcast as an example of the honest relationship they have cultivated.

Past Sabotage Attempts

In a previous podcast episode, Tate Ferdinand had disclosed his past attempts to undermine his father's relationship with Kate out of loyalty to his late mother. He admitted to fabricating stories, including accusing Ferdinand of meeting unknown men on the driveway and of locking him and his siblings in a room after she moved into their home in 2018. Ferdinand corroborated this, recalling an instance where a delivery to the house led Tate to falsely accuse her of meeting men while Rio was away. Tate explained his actions stemmed from jealousy and a confused state of mind, admitting to a period where he “hated” Ferdinand and engaged in “mind games” by alternating between affection and severe disapproval.
