Kate Ferdinand Discusses Step-Parenting Challenges Amidst Dubai Move

Kate Ferdinand has shared her struggles with "step-mum" guilt and the complexities of managing five children spread across two countries following her family's relocation to Dubai.

Ferdinand, 35, admitted on Instagram that she had been overthinking her social media content, often presenting an idealized version of her life rather than the reality. She revealed that her husband Rio's sons, Lorenz, 19, and Tate, 18, remain in the UK to pursue their football careers, while her daughter Tia, 14, and their younger children, Cree, four, and Shae, two, are with her in the United Arab Emirates.

"I have five kids across two countries, I'm navigating motherhood and trying to be everything for everyone," Ferdinand stated. "Lately, I've been struggling with mum/step mum guilt and miss everyone living the same home."

She also spoke about the pressures of building two businesses and the accompanying self-doubt and setbacks that Instagram often obscures. Ferdinand disclosed a personal battle with adult acne for over a year, which impacted her confidence and led her to hide behind makeup. She is now working towards embracing a more natural look and accepting imperfections.

Accompanying her post were images depicting aspects of her daily life, including makeup-free moments, Tia horseback riding, and her younger children looking at photos of their brothers. Ferdinand reflected on her fitness routine, noting that she can no longer train five times a week due to her responsibilities, a shift from her previous lifestyle.

"I've had a reality check recently and it's impossible to do everything (I've tried)," she wrote. "I put so much pressure on myself to do it all and it leads to burnout. The main thing I'm focusing on now is a healthy whole version of me which can look different week to week."

The Ferdinand family moved to Dubai in August of the previous year. Shortly after the move, Kate expressed missing home and her older stepsons, acknowledging the difficulty of the adjustment while understanding the necessity for her sons to pursue their football aspirations.

She also commented on experiencing Dubai during Ramadan, noting the altered schedules for her children, who attend half-day school sessions. Ferdinand described the unique energy of the holy month and the educational value of living in a multicultural environment, stating, "My children are learning things that they wouldn't… they might learn it in the UK, but they wouldn't actively be living it. That's something that I really love."
