Kate Ferdinand Discusses 'Step-Mum' Guilt Amidst Dubai Move
The reality star opens up about the challenges of managing five children across two countries and the personal struggles she's faced.
Kate Ferdinand has revealed she is grappling with feelings of guilt as a stepmother while navigating life with five children spread across two countries following her family's move to Dubai. The 35-year-old shared candid insights into her life on Instagram, admitting she had previously felt pressure to present an idealized version of her experiences online.
Ferdinand explained that her husband Rio's sons, Lorenz, 19, and Tate, 18, remain in the UK to pursue their football careers. Meanwhile, her 14-year-old daughter Tia, and her own two younger children, Cree, four, and Shae, two, are with her in the United Arab Emirates. This geographical separation has led to significant emotional challenges.
"I have five kids across two countries, I'm navigating motherhood and trying to be everything for everyone. Lately, I've been struggling with mum/step-mum guilt and miss everyone living the same home," Ferdinand wrote on Instagram. She also touched upon the difficulties of building two businesses simultaneously, acknowledging the self-doubt and setbacks that accompany such endeavors, aspects she feels are often omitted from curated social media portrayals.
Adding to her personal challenges, Ferdinand disclosed that she has been dealing with adult acne for over a year, which impacted her confidence. She noted that she had been hiding behind makeup but is now working towards embracing a more natural look and accepting her imperfections.
Ferdinand shared that she has had to adjust her expectations regarding fitness, recognizing that maintaining a rigorous workout schedule five times a week is currently unfeasible alongside her other responsibilities. "I've had a reality check recently and it's impossible to do everything (I've tried). I put so much pressure on myself to do it all and it leads to burnout," she stated.
She now prioritizes a holistic approach to her well-being, focusing on being a healthy version of herself, acknowledging that this can manifest differently from week to week. Photos accompanying her post included candid moments such as Tia horseback riding, her younger children looking at pictures of their brothers in the UK, and exercise sessions.
The family relocated to Dubai in August of the previous year. Shortly after the move, Ferdinand expressed how much she missed home and her elder sons. "I know this decision is right for my younger children and as a family we are settled there, but the boys are following their football careers," she explained at the time, noting the significant adjustment of being separated from them.
More recently, she commented on experiencing Dubai during Ramadan, observing that the children have shorter school days and appreciating the unique cultural and spiritual atmosphere of the city. She highlighted the educational value for her children of living in a multicultural environment.
