A photograph shared by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt aboard the new Air Force One has drawn scrutiny from social media users who pointed to what they described as "fake books" used as decor. Leavitt posted images on X, formerly Twitter, expressing her "privilege to be aboard the inaugural flight on the brand new Air Force One!" The new aircraft, estimated to cost $400 million and potentially more with security upgrades, is intended for the president's use.
In at least one of the images, what appear to be books are visible on a shelf behind Leavitt. Upon closer examination, social media users suggested these were not real books but decorative facades, citing generic titles such as "Library," "Arts," "Vintages," and "Antiques." Some observers compared them to the type of faux books used in retail settings like IKEA.
The new Air Force One has been a subject of discussion regarding its cost and amenities. While U.S. taxpayers have funded substantial security upgrades and overhauls for the aircraft, the specific details of its interior decor have become a point of contention following Leavitt's social media post.
