Karl Stefanovic Reflects on 'Unfond Farewell' from Nine, Embraces New Chapter

Karl Stefanovic has spoken about his departure from Channel Nine, admitting he did not receive the send-off he had hoped for as he settles into life away from breakfast television.

The 52-year-old former host appeared in good spirits at Golden Eagle Day at Royal Randwick on Saturday, where he was observed mingling with guests. Stefanovic made light of his current career status, joking to the crowd about his situation. "What a wonderful day, I don't even have a job so I'm gonna be on the microphone all afternoon!" he quipped.

However, speaking to The Daily Telegraph, Stefanovic conceded that his 26-year career at Nine had not concluded on the warmest of terms. "It wasn't a very fond farewell from Nine," he stated, while also noting there was "no bad blood."

Stefanovic's exit in June followed a period of backlash after an interview with British activist Tommy Robinson on his independent podcast. His departure marked the end of a lengthy association with the network, where he had become a prominent figure in Australian breakfast television.

More recently, Stefanovic was involved in a legal dispute with former podcast business partner Keshnee Ibrahim. The matter was settled in the NSW Supreme Court, with Stefanovic gaining ownership of the podcast business and Ibrahim withdrawing her proceedings.

Despite the recent upheaval, Stefanovic expressed enjoyment in his newfound freedom from the early morning demands of the 'Today' show. "I'm really good, I don't have to wake up at three in the morning! I have free rein to do whatever I want really," he said. "Spend more time with my kids, do long lunches which I could never do, go to the podcast studio."

His presence at Royal Randwick also indicated his continued public profile, as racegoers were observed calling out his name throughout the afternoon.

Stefanovic was happy to make light of his newly unemployed status, joking to the crowd about his career situation. Stefanovic was happy to make light of his newly unemployed status, joking to the crowd about his career situation.
