Longtime Republican strategist Karl Rove drew laughter and applause during a recent appearance at The Atlantic Festival when he delivered a spot-on impression of former President Donald Trump.

During a conversation with reporter Vivian Salama, Rove mimicked Trump's voice and mannerisms while repeating the former president's recent social media insult: "Stone cold loser. Total, total loser. He’s a total loser. Nobody’s ever seen anything like this. They say, ‘Sir, total stone cold loser.’"

The impression came in response to Salama asking Rove about Trump's public criticism of him.

Shifting Political Allegiance

Rove also elaborated on his recent decision to vote for a Democratic candidate for the Texas Railroad Commission, Jon Rosenthal, citing "bigoted" comments made by Republican candidate Bo French. This marks only the second time in his life Rove has voted for a Democrat.

In a Wall Street Journal column, Rove expressed concern about what he described as the infiltration of the Republican party by individuals with hateful ideologies. He wrote about encountering "Jew-haters, misogynists who worship hypermasculinity, conspiracy nuts seeking clicks for profit, and religious bigots" within the party, stating, "My party is infiltrated by these people."
