Karl-Anthony Towns Expresses Discontent Over Knicks Contract Negotiations

Karl-Anthony Towns has expressed dissatisfaction with the New York Knicks' contract extension offers, stating that negotiations are not progressing toward an agreement that values him while keeping the team together. The center publicly shared his concerns on Monday, indicating a significant gap between his expectations and the team's proposals.

"Simply put, I want to do something to keep the team together and can work with the Knicks and also values me," Towns said. "And none of those things are close to happening."

When asked about the likelihood of reaching an agreement before the regular season begins, Towns responded, "It don't look good." The Knicks and Towns have been engaged in discussions since August, when he became eligible for an extension. He is eligible for a four-year, $277 million deal, and has indicated a willingness to accept a discount.

However, the Knicks' offer is reportedly around four years and $200 million, which is approximately $77 million less than his maximum allowable extension. Towns implied that the proposed discount is more substantial than he anticipated.

"No s–t Sherlock. I just won a championship. You'd think it was pretty easy. Unless you guys (reporters) think I have something else to prove," Towns remarked when questioned about whether he felt he deserved to be rewarded for his championship performance.

Towns is not the only player whose contract situation is uncertain. Teammates Josh Hart and Miles McBride are also eligible for extensions until June, but there appears to be limited progress in their negotiations as well.

The Knicks' front office, reportedly under the direction of owner James Dolan, is aiming to stay below the league's second salary cap apron. This strategy also accounts for a potential future extension for Jalen Brunson, who will become eligible for an extension next year.
