Karen Spencer Buys Mansion Near Althorp Estate Post-Divorce

Karen Spencer, the third wife of Earl Spencer, has purchased a new mansion for £3.6 million, located just ten miles from the historic Althorp estate. The acquisition, made with a portion of her divorce settlement, signals a new phase for the Canadian-born social entrepreneur following her 13-year marriage to Princess Diana's brother, which concluded in 2024.

New Residence

The property, described by estate agents as a "remarkable country estate that epitomises luxury and refined living," features six bedrooms and is set within 24 acres of parkland and formal gardens. It includes a heated swimming pool, an all-weather tennis court, a gym, and outdoor dining areas. The Lutyens-inspired house, built approximately 20 years ago, offers a blend of modern comfort and classic architectural style.

Karen, who retains the title Countess Spencer, relocated to Althorp in 2011 after meeting Earl Spencer in Los Angeles. Initially dividing her time between the UK and California, she eventually moved to Northamptonshire full-time. She became actively involved in restoration projects at Althorp, chronicling her experiences on social media. Following the split, she faced challenges finding temporary accommodation for her pets before moving into her new home in August 2025.

Althorp and New Beginnings

Meanwhile, at Althorp, Earl Spencer has married Professor Cat Jarman, an archaeologist he met five years prior during a dig on the estate. Jarman, who is 18 years younger than the Earl, has shared updates on her life at Althorp, noting the adjustments to aristocratic life. The couple met through a shared interest in history, collaborating on a podcast and bonding over their respective academic pursuits. Their relationship reportedly began after both had ended their previous marriages.

The circumstances surrounding the end of Karen and Earl Spencer's marriage and the beginning of his relationship with Jarman became a subject of legal proceedings. Karen initiated a lawsuit against Jarman for misuse of private information, alleging an affair that she believed began in late 2022. Court documents indicated Karen's distress over the situation. Both Earl Spencer and Jarman denied the allegations of an affair predating the end of their respective marriages. The legal matter was settled in April of the current year, with Jarman stating her right to privacy regarding her health condition, which had also become a point of contention.

Earl Spencer reportedly incurred significant legal costs exceeding £2 million from the proceedings. Following the finalization of their divorce in December of the previous year, Karen chose to keep her title. She continues her philanthropic work, focusing on child welfare and sustainability through her founded charity, Whole Child International, and her role on the board of the Center for Global Development.
