Karen Hauer Embraces Stress-Free Life Post-Strictly Axe

Karen Hauer, once the longest-serving professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing, is embracing a less stressful lifestyle following her departure from the show. After 14 years committed to the intensive program, Hauer has stated she does not miss being a part of the competition and is content with having more time and less pressure.

"I have some great memories from Strictly, but do I miss being in it? No. I like having a little less stress and a little bit more time," Hauer told the Daily Mail. She described her previous tenure as being "locked in and disciplined," acknowledging the demanding nature of the show for all professionals involved.

Despite her current satisfaction with life off the dancefloor, Hauer has not ruled out a potential return to Strictly in a different capacity, such as a judge. "If an opportunity like that comes I will welcome it," she said, emphasizing the lasting impact of her experience on the program.

Currently, Hauer is performing in the touring production of "Stepping Out," where she plays a dance teacher. She views this stage work as a positive transition, appreciating the live performance aspect and the connection with the audience and fellow actors. "I love what I do. I've always loved theater, and I've always loved performing and doing a live performance on an everyday basis," she explained.

Hauer also commented on the upcoming season's hosting changes, with Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe, and Johannes Radebe taking over. She expressed support for the new team, particularly noting Willis's star power, Widdicombe's relatability due to his past participation, and Radebe's intimate knowledge of the show.

While she won't be watching the launch episode due to work commitments, Hauer is preparing to host The Burns Bravery Awards in November in partnership with Burns Pet Nutrition. The campaign encourages nominations for dogs that have demonstrated bravery and impact. As a dog lover with four rescue dogs, Hauer finds this role particularly meaningful, highlighting the significant role dogs play in human well-being.

"What I say about my dogs is that I rescued them, but they actually rescued me," Hauer stated. "They support us, they comfort us, it's beautiful. The instincts that they have to nurture and to know when you're in danger, when you are feeling low, how it helps with our mental well-being, how it helps with our physical well-being."
