Kansas City Radio Host Admits Agreement With OutKick Reporting, Questions Platform's Credibility
Carrington Harrison of KCMO's 'Mundo in the Morning' claims to agree with OutKick's assessment of Josh Simmons' situation but expresses disdain for the outlet and its association with conservative figures.
Kansas City sports radio host Carrington Harrison has acknowledged that he agrees with the reporting of OutKick, a conservative sports media outlet, regarding the situation surrounding Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Josh Simmons. However, Harrison stated that he does not respect OutKick's platform or its coverage, citing ideological differences and an association with conservative media personality Clay Travis.
In recent discussions on his radio show and social media, Harrison criticized Kansas City sports media for engaging with OutKick's reporting. He specifically took issue with an OutKick article that highlighted questions surrounding Simmons' absence from games this season due to a mysterious back injury and previously reported character concerns. While Harrison conceded that OutKick's reporting on Simmons was accurate, he expressed reservations about the outlet itself.
"I don't fundamentally disagree with Bobby Burack," Harrison said, referring to the OutKick writer. "The truth doesn't matter who says the truth. It's still the truth regardless of who says it."
Despite this admission of factual agreement, Harrison elaborated on his discomfort, stating, "I don't respect Bobby Burack's reporting. I don't respect the platform that he has created for himself. I believe that he is somebody who has cultivated an audience and a brand around insects, bots, trolls and racists. That's not someone that I'm super interested in getting on the internet and having to tussle with and going back and forth with."
This stance led to confusion among some commentators, including Pete Mundo, host of 'Mundo in the Morning,' who questioned the apparent contradiction. Harrison maintained that his issue was not with the accuracy of the reporting on Simmons, but rather with his unwillingness to "align himself" with OutKick due to its perceived political leanings and association with Clay Travis.
OutKick's writer, Bobby Burack, noted that his coverage of Simmons was based on publicly available information, including reports from ESPN and Sports Illustrated, which detailed character red flags and Simmons' unannounced absence from the team prior to a game last season. Simmons has missed all four games of the current season with a back injury, which team sources have described as being a non-issue in August, and ESPN has characterized as "mysterious."
Burack suggested that local media, like Harrison, may be hesitant to cover such stories critically for fear of alienating the team's public relations department. He stated that OutKick's reporting on the unusual circumstances surrounding Simmons is a story worth covering, regardless of political affiliation.
OutKick also reached out to Steven Spector, program director for 96.5 The Fan, Harrison's station, to ascertain if Harrison's views on conservatives and OutKick reflect the station's stance. Spector did not respond by the time of publication. Harrison also did not comment further when approached for clarification on his remarks.
