The Kansas City Chiefs have revealed renderings for a proposed $3 billion stadium in Kansas, with a target opening date of the 2031 NFL season. The design, created by MANICA, features a fully enclosed dome with translucent ethylene tetrafluoroethylene panels, aiming to enhance the fan experience while honoring the legacy of the current Arrowhead Stadium.
Clark Hunt, Chiefs Chairman and CEO, stated that the new venue is designed to improve the game-day experience for all fans and represents a bold course for the future of Chiefs Kingdom. The stadium is planned to accommodate 70,000 spectators and incorporate features to amplify crowd noise.
Lawmakers in Kansas have approved the use of Sales Tax and Revenue (STAR) bonds, which could finance up to 70 percent of the stadium's cost to attract the NFL franchise from Missouri. While the final location has not been determined, Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly has indicated Wyandotte County as a potential site, and the Chiefs have expressed interest in Kansas City, Kansas. The proposed stadium is projected to include over 20,000 parking spaces.
The design has drawn comparisons to the Saddledome, home of the NHL's Calgary Flames, with the Flames' official X account posting, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." The Chiefs have played at Arrowhead Stadium since 1972.
