Kamala Harris Weighs 2028 Presidential Run Amidst Husband's Private Reservations

Vice President Kamala Harris is reportedly considering a presidential campaign in 2028, a potential move her husband, Doug Emhoff, has privately expressed reservations about, according to sources who spoke with The Wall Street Journal.

Despite Emhoff's private concerns, those close to him anticipate he would support Harris if she ultimately decides to pursue the nation's highest office. Harris, 61, has not officially announced her intentions for 2028, currently focusing her efforts on supporting Democratic candidates in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections.

Sources indicate that Harris has been actively engaging with political advisors, including her Chief of Staff Candace Bond, and has appointed former Ambassador Eduardo Negrón as her communications director. She is also reportedly working with Democratic strategist Brian Fallon, who previously assisted with her 2024 campaign efforts.

The potential 2028 Democratic presidential field is expected to be competitive. Speculation includes former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. However, Newsom has previously stated he would not run if Harris enters the race, citing their shared California roots and the potential for internal party conflict.

Her husband, however, has privately expressed concerns with others about Harris running again. He is expected to support her if she does choose to run, sources told WSJ

Harris has been active in supporting Democratic campaigns leading up to the midterms. She has attended private fundraisers in California and Nevada, and is scheduled to campaign for Nevada Governor Aaron Ford and Senator Jon Ossoff's re-election bid in Georgia. Recently, while campaigning for Dr. Richard Pan in California, Harris delivered remarks that appeared to miss the intended audience reaction, leading to a moment of self-aware laughter.

Harris has said her goal right now is the midterms, where she has been seen campaign with several Democrats, including Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed
