Kamala Harris' Rally Speech Met With Silence in Mississippi

During a Democratic rally in Columbus, Mississippi, for Senate hopeful Scott Colom, Vice President Kamala Harris encountered a muted response from the crowd after delivering a convoluted motivational quote. The lack of applause led Harris to repeat the statement, which had initially fallen flat.

Harris had told the attendees, "You know, I mentor a lot of young people, and I talk to them sometimes and part of the advice I give them is, you know, never let someone else with limited ability to see your capacity be a limitation on your ambition." The remark was met with minimal reaction from the audience gathered in a high school gymnasium.

Visibly reacting to the silence, Harris then restated her message: "Let me repeat that: Never let anybody else’s, somebody else’s limited ability to see your capacity to be a limitation on your ambition." This time, the crowd responded more audibly.

She continued, "That’s their limitation. That’s not our limitation. That’s their limitation. We are not limited in our ambition and desire and ability to see what is possible and what can be."

Colom, who is challenging incumbent Republican Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, acknowledged that inviting the former presidential candidate to campaign for him had raised questions. He reportedly told the audience, "Why would you do that?" before answering his own question with, "You know what I told them, ‘Why not?’"
