Kamala Harris Advises Against Impeaching Trump Again

Former Vice President Kamala Harris has advised Democrats against pursuing another impeachment of former President Donald Trump if they regain control of the House of Representatives. Harris stated in an interview that impeachment is "not a good idea" due to limited resources and suggested that energy should be directed toward accountability and investigations.

"I think the energy and the resources need to be put into accountability, need to be put into investigations," Harris told MeidasTouch's Aaron Parnas. "And that’s where the time should be spent."

Harris, who served in the Senate during Trump's first impeachment trial related to Ukraine aid, noted that the votes for conviction were not present. She recalled her vote to convict Trump at that time. Trump has survived two impeachment attempts during his presidency. The second impeachment followed the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot, and Harris was vice president during the subsequent Senate trial.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has indicated that while impeachment of Trump is not off the table, Democrats may focus on other administration officials, such as War Secretary Pete Hegseth. He suggested that impeachment investigations into appointed officials might be pursued.

The process of impeachment requires a simple majority in the House of Representatives. However, conviction and removal from office necessitate a two-thirds vote in the Senate. Such a supermajority has not been held by either party in the Senate since the mid-1960s.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, whose husband, Bill Clinton, was impeached, also expressed opposition to impeaching Trump again. Clinton described impeachment as a "sideshow" given the unlikelihood of conviction. She indicated support for opening impeachment investigations into officials like Pete Hegseth, whom she accused of politicizing the military.

Harris concluded by emphasizing the need for Democrats to be "ruthless" and "uncompromising" in their approach after the election, distinguishing it from being "cruel."
