Presley died on September 20 from a suspected overdose after going into cardiac arrest. He had checked into the Santa Monica rehabilitation facility Resolutions Living the day before his death. Audio from a 911 dispatch call obtained by the Daily Mail indicated a call was made for cardiac arrest, which was later upgraded to "overdose."
Sources close to Presley told TMZ that he reportedly used drugs on the afternoon before his death and became concerned about losing control. His sober coach contacted Resolutions Living, and an admissions officer reportedly agreed to admit him as a temporary measure for the weekend. Insiders also claimed that Presley continued using drugs while at the sober living facility.
Presley had been open about his decade-long struggle with drug addiction and mental health issues. In November of the previous year, he announced a step back from social media to focus on his mental health. He later shared candid videos about his personal life and initiated "Mental Health Mondays" on Instagram, where he discussed his fluctuating medication use for night terrors and panic attacks.
Earlier in the year, he posted about undergoing a "Pre-ibogaine flood dose" at a treatment clinic in Mexico, a high-dose administration of ibogaine intended to aid withdrawal symptoms and induce a profound reset. His parents and sister had publicly praised his courage in seeking this treatment.
Presley's remains were cremated days after his death, and his parents are expected to keep his ashes at their residence. A final determination of substances involved in his death awaits the release of the Medical Examiner's toxicology report.
Kaia, who was reportedly extremely close to her brother, is still processing her grief. A source told the Daily Mail that Kaia has not had an easy time in her 25 years but is a strong person who will persevere.
