Kai Trump Suffers Wrist Injury in College Golf Debut
The University of Miami golfer sustained the injury during her first tournament, impacting her opening collegiate performance.
Kai Trump, granddaughter of former President Donald Trump, began her collegiate golf career at the University of Miami with an unfortunate wrist injury sustained during her first tournament, the Golfweek Fall Challenge. The incident occurred early in the competition when Trump struck a hidden concrete surface while attempting a swing near a path.
In an Instagram video, the 19-year-old explained the initial impact felt like a shock to her arm. The injury worsened on the tenth hole when she swung her driver, leading her to believe she had re-torn the ligament. Subsequent tests, however, revealed the damage to be less severe than initially feared, involving a "little sliver" along her ligaments.
To address the injury and minimize missed playing time, Trump is receiving stem cell injections from pain management specialist Dr. Jeffrey Weigers. The injury affected her performance at the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, where she finished tied for 102nd place in a 120-player field with a score of 10-over 81.
The setback comes during a significant transitional period for Trump, who recently moved away from her family and friends in Jupiter, Florida, to begin college. She has publicly shared feelings of homesickness in recent YouTube videos, expressing distress about being away from loved ones.
Trump will have time to recover and focus on her rehabilitation before the University of Miami's next event, the Ruth Chris Tar Heel Invitational, which is scheduled to take place at UNC Finley Golf Course in North Carolina.
