Kai Trump, granddaughter of former President Donald Trump, described the emotional period leading up to her freshman year at the University of Miami, during which her mother, Vanessa Trump, was undergoing treatment for breast cancer. In an interview with Fox News Digital, the 19-year-old recounted the heightened emotions she and her mother experienced in the week before she left for college.

"There was definitely, there was a lot of crying in like the week leading up," Kai Trump said. "We would just be driving, and then we'd just start crying together."

Vanessa Trump publicly revealed her breast cancer diagnosis in May and has been working with her medical team on a treatment plan. By June, she reported that she had recovered from surgery and was preparing for the next phase of her treatment. Kai Trump shared that her mother is now doing much better, despite experiencing some discomfort following treatment.

"My mom, she’s doing a lot better," Kai said. "Kind of after treatment, she wasn’t feeling very good. Just like how treatment will make you feel … but she’s getting a lot better now."

Kai Trump views the opportunity to spend more time with her mother over the summer as a "blessing in disguise." As a competitive golfer, she noted that this time would typically have been spent on the golf course. She found value in the extra hours spent with her mother before beginning her college education.

The proximity of the University of Miami to her home has also eased Kai Trump's transition to college life, providing reassurance that her mother is nearby. She expressed confidence in her mother's support, stating, "I know if I called her at a random time she would be here in a heartbeat."

Kai Trump is looking forward to the next chapter of her life, and her mother shares in her excitement for this new phase.
