Kai Trump, 19, recently began her freshman year at the University of Miami, where she will play on the women's golf team. Ahead of her move into her first apartment, she jokingly lamented the prospect of household chores.
During a shopping trip with her mother, Vanessa Trump, for apartment essentials, Kai Trump expressed her apprehension about cleaning. "No, I'm calling her down, like, 'Hey Mom, my bathroom's dirty,'" she said, according to a video shared online. Vanessa Trump insisted that her daughter would learn to manage her own cleaning or "it'll just stay a mess."
Kai Trump purchased a variety of items for her new living space, including bedding, an air fryer, kitchen supplies, over-the-counter medications, and personal care products like shampoo, body lotion, deodorant, and body wash. Her mother added dish soap to the cart, reminding her to wash her own dishes.
Kai admitted she had not yet visited her apartment, but her mother had been preparing it. Her mother teased that the apartment was so appealing she considered moving in herself. "I'm so over this," Kai said at one point, a sentiment her mother echoed, describing college shopping as both "draining" and "exhausting."
The shopping trip occurred shortly after Kai Trump spoke about the emotional impact of her mother's battle with breast cancer. Vanessa Trump was diagnosed in May, and underwent surgery in June, preparing for further treatment.
In a recent interview with Fox News, Kai Trump shared that the weeks leading up to her college departure were particularly difficult. "It was emotional, there was a lot of crying in the week leading up [to me leaving for school]," she stated. "[Me and my mom] would just be driving and we would just start crying together."
Kai Trump described spending the summer with her mother, attending treatments together, as a "blessing in disguise" that allowed for extra time she might have otherwise spent on the golf course. "I was very lucky to spend a lot of time with her over the summer, because of cancer and going to treatments with her," she said. "It was nice to spend those extra hours with her throughout the day before going to college."
Regarding her mother's health, Kai Trump reported in the interview that Vanessa Trump is "doing a lot better" after treatment, noting that while she didn't feel well immediately afterward, her condition has improved.
