Kacey Musgraves Slams Christopher Columbus at Concert, Calls Him 'Lamest Person to Ever Exist'
The singer also recently hosted a Democratic candidate at one of her shows.
Singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves used her platform at a concert in Texas to condemn Christopher Columbus, calling the explorer "literally the lamest person to probably ever exist" just before Columbus Day.
During her performance at the American Airlines Center, Musgraves noted that the following day was Columbus Day. As the audience responded, she stated, "Yeah, no yeah yeah, actually, obviously f--- Columbus. Literally the lamest person to probably ever exist. Like for real. What a loser. You’re a loser, Christopher Columbus, we hate you!"
While celebrated for his voyages that initiated European exploration of the Americas, Columbus has also faced significant criticism regarding his treatment of Indigenous peoples and his role in the beginning of colonization. This has led to ongoing debates about whether the explorer should be honored.
Musgraves has been active in political advocacy recently. In August, she encouraged her fans to support the Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights, describing it as an organization that provides legal aid and financial assistance to children whose parents have been unfairly deported.
More recently, Musgraves hosted Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico at a concert in Dallas. During the event, she reportedly mocked former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
Theo Wold, a former White House deputy assistant under President Donald Trump, criticized Musgraves' comments, telling Fox News Digital that "Columbus was a courageous adventurer and ahead-of-his-time navigator to whom we owe much of the prosperity we now enjoy." Wold suggested that Musgraves' views reflect broader issues with educational standards in public schools.
