K9 JETS Soars: Pet-Focused Airline Sees Rapid Growth From New York Hub

K9 JETS, a British-based company, has experienced significant growth since its inception during the COVID-19 pandemic, establishing an international pet travel network that connects New York with destinations across the United States, the UK, and Europe. The company, which launched its first pet-dedicated, pay-per-seat private jet flight in 2023, has since transported over 10,000 passengers and their pets.

Operating primarily from Teterboro Airport in New Jersey, K9 JETS facilitates travel for families with their pets by allowing them to fly together in the aircraft cabin. This model emerged from an idea to share charter jets among pet owners, seeking a more humane alternative to traditional cargo holds. Founder Adam Golder noted the demand from clients, such as Paul Marran from New York, who sought a better way for people to travel internationally with their pets.

The company's strategy involves chartering private aircraft and selling individual seats, rather than requiring clients to book the entire jet. This approach offers passengers many of the benefits of private aviation, including private terminals and a more relaxed experience, without the full cost of a charter. The first K9 JETS flight departed Teterboro for the UK in April 2023, proving the concept's viability beyond a niche market.

Teterboro Airport has become a key gateway for K9 JETS' American operations. The airport connects passengers to Los Angeles via Van Nuys Airport for coast-to-coast travel. The company's transatlantic network includes weekly flights between New York and London, as well as regular services connecting Teterboro with seven European cities monthly.

K9 JETS caters to a diverse range of passengers and their pets, from small animals to large breeds like Great Pyrenees. The in-cabin atmosphere is described as more communal than commercial flights, with pets often settling beside their owners and passengers interacting with each other and their animals. The service is designed around the needs of traveling pets from the outset, aiming to simplify the process for owners who have completed the necessary international travel preparations, such as veterinary documentation and vaccinations.
