A K-9 unit played a crucial role in the apprehension of a suspect accused of shooting the mother of his child and fleeing authorities in Georgia. The 10-hour manhunt concluded Tuesday evening with the arrest of Darian Berry Sr., 46, in Butts County.

Deputies responded to a domestic incident Tuesday morning in Flovilla, located approximately 50 miles south of Atlanta. Berry, a convicted felon, was accused of aggravated assault, attempting to confine or restrict his victim, arson, and stalking. When deputies arrived, Berry allegedly fled the scene on foot, believed to be armed with a handgun.

The Butts County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Georgia Department of Corrections K-9 Unit, deployed bloodhounds to track Berry. The dogs' tracking abilities ultimately led authorities to Berry, who was taken into custody.

Berry faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, stalking, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, obstruction, two counts of arson, battery, family violence, and false imprisonment. The sheriff's office stated that Berry "made the choice to run, but he could not outrun the determination of law enforcement or the incredible tracking ability of the bloodhounds that ultimately helped bring him into custody."
