A juvenile driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following a high-speed drag racing crash in Long Beach, California, late Friday night. The incident, which occurred around 11:51 p.m. on Spring Street near Kilroy Airport Way, also caused damage to a traffic control box, disabling signals at the intersection.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, the preliminary investigation indicates the overturned vehicle was racing another car at speeds estimated between 90 to 100 miles per hour. Witnesses reported that the juvenile driver lost control while navigating a curve near the city’s airport, leading to the crash. The second vehicle involved in the race did not remain at the scene.

Dramatic video from the scene captured the moments after the wreck, showing the driver, identified only as a minor by police, in distress near her heavily damaged vehicle. Bystanders checked on the driver, who stated she was alone in the car. The vehicle was described as mangled and resting on its side against a concrete wall.

The Long Beach Fire Department confirmed that the young driver managed to self-extricate from the vehicle before medical personnel arrived. She was then taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The extent of the vehicle's damage made its make and model unrecognizable, with its front end appearing shredded. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and it is unclear if any charges have been filed.
