Justin Timberlake Expresses Regret Over His Past Beatboxing Era
The singer jokingly apologized to fans, acknowledging his former musical "ambitions".
Justin Timberlake has publicly expressed regret over his past inclination to beatbox during performances, affectionately referring to it as a "cringeworthy era." The sentiment was shared in response to a video posted by social media creator Hannah Young (@uhhuhhannah) on Instagram.
In the video, Young humorously recalled Timberlake's frequent use of beatboxing, describing it as a period where he would interject "boots and cats" into songs, even in professional recording studios. She noted that audiences at the time accepted it without question, remarking, "We were watching that man make drum noises with his mouth like, ‘Oh my God, what can’t he do?’"
Timberlake, 45, commented on Young's video, acknowledging his past "ambitions." "I often look back on that time as well. I still haven’t come up with any answers," he wrote. "I don’t know how to apologize enough for whatever those ambitions were. Too many boots. Too many cats. I hope you can forgive me."
The singer also playfully added a caveat, stating, "Also, I can’t promise I won’t do it again. God help us all."
This is not the first time Timberlake has addressed his beatboxing habit. During a 2023 appearance on the YouTube series "Hot Ones" alongside his *NSYNC bandmates, he described the beatboxing interludes from their stadium tours as "slightly regrettable." His bandmate Lance Bass, however, labeled the moments as "iconic."
