Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert admitted that proposing to singer Madison Beer was more nerve-wracking than facing a pass rusher or making his NFL debut. Herbert shared this sentiment on Wednesday during the team's training camp.

Herbert chose to propose to Beer the day before training camp was scheduled to begin. "I thought about it a lot," he said regarding the timing of the engagement. The news of the proposal became a topic of conversation among his teammates and coaches during the Chargers' initial training camp sessions.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh recounted that Herbert shared the news in the quarterback room. "We didn’t know until afterward," Harbaugh said. "It’s awesome. I feel great for him." Harbaugh, reflecting on his own proposal, described the moment as having "little hairs on your arms start standing up" and called "the magical moment when she said yes."

Safety Derwin James Jr. stated that he had been aware of Herbert's intentions. "He told me a long time ago he was going to do it," James said. "I was happy for him. It was fun to see."

Linebacker Daiyan Henley recalled knowing Beer was the one for Herbert during the team's 2025 season opener in Sao Paolo, Brazil. "It was her impact," Henley told Kay Adams, referencing an event where Herbert slid on the field. Henley recounted a locker room conversation where Herbert said, "Bro, I’m bending the knee." Henley added, "He absolutely ready. Love was in the air, in his eyes, in his heart."

Beer was present at Chargers' training camp on Wednesday, greeting Herbert as he came off the field. Herbert also made a lighthearted comparison between the preparation for his proposal and his emergency NFL debut in 2020 following an injury to Tyrod Taylor, noting that the proposal allowed for more time to prepare.
