Justin Baldoni and his wife, Emily Baldoni, have broken a two-year public silence to address their protracted legal battle with Blake Lively, accusing her of causing them "pain" and "injustice" with "untruthful" claims. The couple shared an Instagram video Wednesday, stating that while they have much to say, they felt this was the right moment to speak.
"We haven't done this in a while," Justin Baldoni began in the video, "and it's not because we haven't had anything to say, because Lord knows we have." He indicated that they would not address all aspects of the legal dispute in this initial statement but suggested further messages would follow.
Emily Baldoni described the situation as "so much to unpack," questioning how such events could occur, "Let alone disguise as a fight for women." She stated that "reality is, is that there's been a lot of trauma for us to move through as a family." The couple expressed immense gratitude for the support they have received, but Emily emphasized that this gratitude does not negate the "injustice and the pain" they have experienced.
Justin Baldoni explained that their decision to remain largely silent was due to their faith in the justice system. "That created so much noise, and we didn't want to add to the noise. So we just wanted to let the justice system run its course," he said. Emily added, "The truth, and the facts, have spoken for themselves."
Legal Dispute Overview
Lively initially sued Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios, in December 2024, alleging defamation and sexual harassment on the set of "It Ends With Us." Baldoni, who also directed the film, retaliated in January 2025 with a $400 million defamation lawsuit against Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, as well as The New York Times. All parties denied the allegations.
In October 2025, a judge dismissed Baldoni's defamation lawsuit. In May of the current year, after most of Lively's claims were dismissed, she agreed to a settlement. While Lively received no monetary compensation, the judge allowed her to seek legal fees related to Baldoni's unsuccessful lawsuit against her. Lively's legal team claimed approximately $8 million in fees and expenses. The film itself, "It Ends With Us," which grossed $351 million worldwide, faced rumors of an on-set feud between the co-stars.
Healing and Gratitude
The Baldonis shared that they are in a healing process, which they described as non-linear. "We have to rethink for ourselves what is real, and what matters," Justin Baldoni stated, emphasizing their focus on family, friends, community, and faith. They also extended thanks to their fans who supported them.
"There were so many of you who, when we didn't have a voice, were our voice," Justin said, expressing gratitude for those who "used their intuition" and "trusted that" to support them.
Emily Baldoni concluded by saying, "There is so much more to say," with Justin interjecting, "And we will say it." For now, they plan to "focus on continuing the healing and hanging out with our kiddos and enjoying life."
