A jumbotron installation at O'Fallon Township High School in southern Illinois ended abruptly when the massive video scoreboard slipped from its harness and shattered on the gymnasium floor. The incident occurred during a renovation of the school's gym.

Video footage of the event shows the large machine falling after one of the cables securing it came loose as it was being hoisted. Workers were seen dodging debris as the scoreboard broke into pieces upon impact. The school district stated that athletic activities would continue with necessary adjustments while the damage is assessed and repaired.

"Athletic activities and events will continue with adjustments as needed," O'Fallon Township High School District Superintendent Dr. Beth Shackelford told First Alert 4. "We are actively evaluating scheduling and facility options to minimize any disruptions."

Nevco, the company responsible for the installation, has indicated that repairs are expected to begin within two to three weeks. The company also stated that the school will not be responsible for the repair costs, with Nevco covering the damage to both the scoreboard and the gym floor. O'Fallon Township High School is one of the largest high schools in Illinois, with an enrollment exceeding 2,500 students.
